Are you wanting bigger than 50l for mashing? If not then stig is on to it cut top out of a keg. Awesome heavy duty pot. If you want to make a boiler keg is definately the go. Lot of stuffing round to make a pot safe...

Stainless steels that are magnetic are martensitic in crystal structure.
Stainless steels that are not magnetic are austenitic in crystal structure.
Magnetic or not it will make no difference to what you do with the pot.

Look for a keg it will save heaps heartache. All you need is one hole for an element to start. Then maybe add a drain..or if running gas its ready to go..or add a drain :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yep forget the pot. It will end up with some ordinary unsafe arrangement to hold the lid on that will involve bulldog clips, rubberbands and a brick, waste of time and will only end in heart ache, stress and an empty pocket or even a burnt down house. There's a good reason you don't see these sorts of stills on this forum, they're a liability. If your after quick and easy go for a keg. Build your still with a 2" easy flange and it will clamp straight onto the keg with a tri clamp. Throw a burner under it and that's it your done, ready to go :handgestures-thumbupleft: kegs can be found on gumtree for about $50. Like bluc said, if you want you can go electric (my recommendation), add a drain, fill port or whatever takes your fancy later on.

Quite often what we think is quick and easy when we start a new hobby actually isn't, I and a lot of people on here are living proof of that.

Good luck with the new hobby mate. Don't rush into anything, take a good look around the forum first before deciding on anything.
