Oak barrel

I have an oak barrel that has been used for port. Would this be ok for ageing rum? After flushing with Water perhaps? Rinsing with rum tails possibly? ?

I wouldn't rinse it at all. the port will add a lovely flavour to the rum.

I was just sippin on some bwko that i put in a 20lt barrel that had previously had port in it. For a start it was very porty, but if you can sit on it for a bit it will turn into something very special.
You can always mix it with non barrel aged to soften the port flavour.
I'm itching to get some more whiskey made to refill my barrel actually.

Ive got a few kgs of spent grain in the freezer, left over from my AG last year that i want to make whiskey from and run through the barrel.. just need to finish up my rum first.
