Stripping and cleaning the FSD neutraliser

Postby Matt_Pl » Mon Aug 26, 2019 7:59 pm

G'day Team,

Just curious how often everyone completely strips down their plated still and scrubs the plates etc etc?

I always run water through it afterwards but rarely strip the setup completely .

Cheers Matt.

I just clean the plates when I change from brown spirits to neutral or between different brown spirits

What’s “cleaning” 8-} :laughing-rolling:
I haven’t stripped my still in years, if need be I’d run a vinegar run or a sac run. But the fores/ heads clean up the plates nicely each run

I only run water down the column between different runs. I used to boil the ss scrubbers from my boka yrs ago but doubt I'd both now as acetone is a very good solvent so after 10 or 15 mins in full reflux they will be sparkling clean!

I break it down every 3-4 months and soak the plates in citric/water. Stainless parts bar the RC and PC go into dishwasher with no detergent on a hot wash.

Doing all grain I have had puke up to the 2nd plate with small pieces of grain make it up into the column so find that cleaning is neccessary. With CFW/UJ etc not so much.
