Sounds like tails does it start towards end of run and are you doing "cuts" collecting in small jars then blending?

Hey blu
You know how you test a red to see if it's good or not with the tannins with the film on the glass well that's what I'm getting with the runs, I do cuts with 500ml bottles and they all seem the same, note that is with a T500 not a pot still so very confused as it should be coming out clean ??

Most certainly wont be the same no matter what still you use have you read the novice guide to cuts in the newbies section?
Regardless of still types there are quite a few different compounds in any mash or wash. These compunds come over at different stages of the run.
Takes a bit to get your palate tuned into the different compounds.
My advice when blending look for change in first few bottles change is a good thing mov8ng from heads to hearts. Towards end of cuts change is a bad thing going from hearrs to tails. I reakon 500ml is a bit big for cuts unless you have a 100l boiler. I do half stubbies 150ishml and I find it works well for me.

I’m thinking the column is flooding. Some call it puking. Try less packing and less heat. Just a newbies opinion.

I would think puking would be discolouration more so than oily crap in spirit..

Hi Tadd, I moved your post out of the news and announcements section and here to beginners questions.
First up welcome to the forum, how about posting up a thread in the welcome centre to introduce yourself a little. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
As for “oily” are you referring to the legs like you see on a good wine? Or is it and actual oil film on the surface of your spirit?
