Turbo 500 Mods

Postby B-Man » Sat Dec 28, 2019 7:24 pm

I have read a few things about the "turbo 500 forum recommended mods" im assuming it relates to this thread Running a T500, the Proper Way - Discussion Thread but it doesn't really talk about all of them.

1. Changing the plastic drip tube to copper.
- I will be grabbing a length of copper and making this happen. I just ran it without and sat the glass jar on top of a box to get it quite close to the end of the drip tube.

2. Not using the plastic carbon? filter
- Do you get a glass filter container or do you just not filter it?

3. Talk of the Plastic top.
- I think this is in relation to the black plastic at the top of the reflux?
- do you replace it with a copper one? how?

3. Changing out ceramic saddles for SS Scrubbers
- Mine had Copper and SS saddles already is this because i got the Copper Reflux?
- Is it worth swapping the SS saddles out for the SS scrubbers?

4. Back off the reflux by restricting the water flow and keeping the condenser full flow?
- Do we always want the condenser on full flow or is that just to get the temps?
- What are the benefits of backing off the reflux?

5. Voltage Controller
- I have seen a few posts about it but unsure. does the T500 with pot or reflux on it need one/ benefit from it?
- I feel like my pot still run was going a bit fast on full flow

Also after getting the t500 kit is there anything else i need to buy?
I thought i would have everything i need since i bought a kit but thinking i need some other equipment.

Do you have a thermometer to measure distillage temps/water output?

To check the abv% in your cuts do you have a long tall glass container to pour your cuts into or how is everyone getting this reading?

Anything else you can recommend to do or buy?

Cheers,

1. Yes, just a piece of 1/2” copper bent/ cut to suit your bench, I had to use a heap of pfte plumbers tape around the outlet to get a good fit
2. With good cuts/ wash and run technique you don’t need to filter
3. Yeah that plastic top can warp if you run the still too hot, then it’ll leak.
3a. :teasing-tease: Those copper and ss saddles are perfect
4.not too sure what you mean here, but unless you separate your water inputs then the t500 runs both reflux and product condensers
Just run it as flat out as you can to achieve a nice dribble drip.
5. A controller isn’t really a benefit for the t500 but a must for a pot still
