Xantham gum can be found at any Woolies in the whole food - gluten free area. Or whole food store. The trick is in the mixing.
.you mix it with the oil component first . So I made up a small glass of 1/4 t spoon of Xanthan gum and 2 teaspoons of gycerin (oil) . It swells a bit. From this I used 2 teaspoons Of this mix Into 72 mls water then shake till it thickens . It will have clots but that is fine.
Then I added 2 teaspoons of aloe gel as a moisturiser . The gel is approx 85% water.

Then I added 175 mls 92% abv neutral. Made today just for this.

I then added 5 drops of peppermint oil. .

Shake again and bottle. If you are concerned about bugs then google the WHO recipe ( hydrogen peroxide ) to kill latent bugs in bottle or the water. Reduce water for additives as it will just keep diluting.

I’ve handed out to neighbours and Local Drs- who can’t get any. :-B

My other half likes to make her own household products and has a cupboard full of ingredients, so I gave hand sanitiser a go...

- Aloe Vera gel
- Alcohol 90% abv (I used the first jar before hearts)
- Tea Tree essential oil

The Aloe Vera gel I had was super thick and globby, so I didn't really need much. I just eye balled it and mixed it all up until I had a consistency I was happy with. If I had to guess, I recon it was about 1 quarter Aloe, 3 quarters alcohol. Slowly add the alcohol to the Aloe in a bowl and mix/whisk well until you're happy with the consistency. Add enough drops of Tea Tree to give it a nice smell (it also has antiviral properties).

The consistency is thinner than the squeeze gels you get from the chemist, but not as runny as the WHO-recommended recipe. You could probably add some Xanthan Gum powder to thicken it up further if you prefer.

Put it in a little squeeze or squirt bottle and you're good to go!

Night night- click- and it’s anything from 61% to 72%. 80 is very abrupt.

From the legal documentation:
the final formulation of the hand sanitiser contains only the following ingredients:
(i) ethanol 80% v/v (pharmacopoeial grade or food standard grade) in an aqueous solution;
(ii) sterile distilled water or boiled cold water;
(iii) glycerol 1.45% v/v (pharmacopoeial grade);
(iv) hydrogen peroxide 0.125% v/v (pharmacopoeial grade);

I made some from 93% heads:
2 x 93% alcohol
1 x Glycerin
as per guide lines = 60 % alcohol killing viruses
N.B Skin is fine _ have to use less< too slimey

When making comercially does hand sanitizer ethanol have to be food grade like vodka or do they use industrial alcohol like metho?

Why? Are you planning on going commercial? I reckon if you're making it for yourself it shouldn't matter. Commercially, as Stig mentioned earlier needs to be pharmacopoeial or food grade. No one's going to be getting their hands on pharmacopoeial grade ethanol unless they have a licence. I worked in the pharmaceutical industry for a while, heavily regulated and full of straighter shooting down the line go by the rules people (mostly). But I guess that's a good thing.
