Packing

Postby Shaun » Thu Apr 09, 2020 11:50 pm

I got some copper mesh and wanted to repack my still but not exactly sure how much i should pack it.

When i got the still i removed the packing that was in it and replaced the ss scrubbers as they looked dirty, it was also packed with glass balls, this packing extended to just above the RC.

Looking down inside the column i can see it is a straight tube, no obstructions, there is a small hole to allow vapor to enter the PC, this is positioned above the RC cooling section.

What i would like to know as i only have one water inlet and outlet for both condensers, should i have the packing above the RC or just below it.

Glad to see you've got yourself a step to reach the top of the still :teasing-tease:

Packing should go beneath the RC, doesn't hurt to have metallic packing inside the RC to help with conduction of heat, more efficient cooling and reflux.
