No you definitely don’t have to but how would we get our laughs :teasing-neener:
Just sprinkle the yeast straight on top of the wash.

I only do it when doing big batchs with more expensive yeast. Pitch to a bucket full then into drum full..
Otherwise just sprinkle bakers on top..

Hi Shaun

I only use 30g in a 25L wash & 40g in a 48L wash (Lowan's Baker Yeast). IMHO 300g is way way too much.

It was a 140l FFV wash so 300g was ok, just not for the 2kg pickle jar, lol

Just out of curiosity did you rehydrate in water or wash?

I've only ever have had that happen with wash or wort, never with the recommended 10x weight of water for the recommended time (I do 20 min).

I have a feeling this might be part of the problem. They recommend 10x weight of water, so for 300g of yeast, you'd want 3 L of water. The smaller amount of water might just help the yeast froth up? Just a thought.

Yeah probably could have halved the yeast.
It will always multiply.

Looks like quote a bit of it didn't even get wet.
