Attaching reflux head to a keg or column

Postby chiefkingston » Thu Sep 17, 2020 8:39 am

Hey everyone,
just started getting into this hobby and I'am setting up my first still, I have a reflux still head and i was wondering if anyone had ideas on how i could attach it to my keg boiler or maybe even another column. I've been reading about possibly welding a triclamp ferrule to the stainless steel head and i was wondering if anyone had another other suggestions.

Cheers and thanks in advance.

Maybe show us what the bottom of the column looks like?

Assuming this is a CM head and the RC is on the column on the right, but what's with all of the ports??

Its an old outdated design that runs coolant through the column in a couple of places to generate reflux instead of a condenser coil or shotgun style condenser, this isnt really the best place to start unfortunately. I nearly built a similar unit in copper a decade odd a go when i first looked into things - glad I didnt in hindsight, the info available then was little and far between and the hobby has certainly progressed in leaps and bounds since then

If you handy with a welder I would be recycling it all into a coil cm or a boka lm set up, the product condenser wont be handling a huge amount of power either, but would be good to hook up to the output of a boka head

If you have purchased this, im sorry but you've been had - there are many better designs out there and few worse

With adding it so the boiler, a triclamp connection is the easiest for everyday use and there really arnt any easier options in pipe this size and larger without going to bolted flanges and the like

Thanks for the info, luckily didn't buy it someone I know had 2 of these and just gave it to me, his one was welded onto the mangrove jack boiler.

This is the bottom of it

I was looking at trying to build a pot still or boka but then was given this and thought i could save myself the trouble of building something. Looks like i might end up just trying to build one after all

Cheers for the info

You would have one hell of a time sealing that to a keg

Can be done with the end off one of these, a 2" sightglass - no doubt you would end up drilling a new set of holes though. Very spendy solution though - dont do it lols

Thanks for all the help,

I think I'm gonna forget about attaching it for now and maybe focus on trying to build a simple still for now
