Ethanol-friendly jar closure?

Postby northy84 » Mon Oct 03, 2022 6:21 pm

I was reading a discussion on homedistiller.org about the seals on Ball mason jars. Apparently the two-part lid gasket reacts with ethanol. But I read that nitrile doesn't. So... put the lid inside a nitrile glove? Powderless and latex free, obviously
Right? Or no?

Surprised nitrile was discussed. I thought ptfe was the only allowed synthetic on that forum. Having said that I have no issue with silicone or epdm. Epdm will stick components together though.. clamped tee section will take a bit of seperating... Others may have different ideas..

You can get a ainless lids fpr ball jars that come with silicone seals.

Note silicone needs to be 100% silicone not the stuff full of fillers they pass off as silicone..
