Wash been sitting

Postby crikko » Mon Jan 02, 2023 1:28 pm

Hi all,

Tried to search but haven't found a definitive answer yet.

I've got a wash that's been sitting for around 12 months. The top is clear and no mould, but the airlock had no water in it for most of the time. Will this be safe to drink after running it? It smells the same as I remember from last time.

Unfortunately life got in the way for a while, but getting my stuff together now.

Did a cleaning wash, and it came out reading 92%. Gonna try 5 litres now and see how it tastes. Wish me luck!

I was a bit worried it might be harmful, but I can handle vinegar if that's what happens.

Carbon dioxide layer will have protected it as long as you did not disturb it then it should be fine. Have fun above all.

Pretty sure I've just made 92% proof vinegar.

Watered some down to 40% and its horrible.

Live and learn I guess

Don't throw that vinegar out
The regular stuff you buy is significantly watered down, that stuff should be super good at cleaning.

A good rinse or even a steam run might be in order, just to be sure nothing makes it into the next batch.
