How do i use a larger fermenter?

Postby slops5511 » Fri Mar 03, 2023 6:31 pm

Hey All

My routine is use 3 (30l) fermenters with TPW, do a stripping run and then a spirit run. I am still using a cheap keglands reflux still but getting great results altho slow but thats fine i work from home so i watch it while working.

I want to use a single large fermenter instead, on facebook market place I reguarly see those large blue plastic i think theyre 200ltr plastic containers. One of these would be perfect and I could put it out in the garden shed to ferment over a few weeks. If I got one of these how the hell do i get the fermented wash into my 30ltr urn 25lrs ish at a time?

thanks

Get a jiggle siphon from Kegland. Then siphon into your urn and carry that back to where you want to run it.

Slops I use a 12v bilge pump from BFC.
I pump out of the 200 litre ( blue barrel ) into raised 60 litre containers to settle over a day or two.
Then I simply open the tap on the settle barrel into a bucket
I also cover the bottom of the bilge pump with some mesh to stop the grains getting through

I use the pump from kegland Super Sucker 1/2 Inch BSP Self Priming Siphon Transfer Diaphragm Pump & Transformer

its cheap and slow and ive fitted it to the strainer from my old syphon , it blocks up a bit

id love to upgrade the setup to something better but it works and its cheap ($60) and easy

I take that back. Just get a pump. I siphoned 50lt today and it was like watching paint dry. Pump will be in the mail shortly.
