alcohol percent

Hi,
recently when I do a tomato paste wash I have noticed that when I water it down to 40% it is fine but when I leave it there for a couple of weeks it will drop down to 30% why is this so please

Are you temp correcting ?
Do you seal the 40% ?

What do you mean by temp correcting and I store the spirits in 5 ltr demijon with a cork to seal it

Alcometers are calibrated to (I think) 22 or is it 20deg C and if your alcohol is hotter it will read higher %
Sealing with a cork , the angels will take a share .
So I dare say your tempering at a higher temperature and not correcting and taking a loss from evaporation
