Repacking Pure Still

Postby Gundy » Wed May 03, 2023 6:01 pm

Hello,

Haven't been doing any cooking for about 3 years...life gets in the way of all the good things.

Anyway, I have 2 pure stills and one has never really worked. I did send it away for a service and they repaired something...it was 3-5 years ago.

Anyway its always run hot and never gives above 85%. Today I 85% for 4-600ml then it slowly dropped until there wasn't much left to recover. TPW 20L at approx 10% got 2.5-3L Last bit was like 45%.

Last time I used it 3 tears ago I remember almost throwing it away.

It runs on 80degrees and then climbs.
I adjusted water flow that made no difference.

I started both stills at the same time the dodger one has a taller column and takes longer to get to temp but flows much quicker right from the start.

The only thing I can guess is going to change anything is the packing... Do I jam it in harder, or make is softer and fluffier?

Any help appreciated.
