nOOBIE: Corny Keg and 50L Keg

Postby poompy » Sat Jul 21, 2012 4:58 pm

Hey,

Waiting now on my pot still from McStill to be delivered!! :D :D
So now it has got me thinking

1. I have two spare corny kegs was thinking of using those for storage of low wines and maybe spirits. How does everyone handle getting the liquid out CO2 (got plenty)? if so are you worried about the o-rings on the liquid out post?

2. I have a 50L keg that I am considering using as a boiler. Already have the burner (Italian spiral plus MP Reg) I can easily bring 40L+ to the boil. Do u need to weld a tap into the bottom of the keg? or just empty out through the hole at the top?

3. I might have another 50L keg that I can use as storage. Should I be looking at welding a tap into it as well? I would assume this is the case.

Cheers guys!!

Good choice of potstills Poompy :handgestures-thumbupleft: With both your 50l kegs,I'd be putting taps in them, makes draining the boiler shit loads easier, and if using one for aging or storing low wines, saves busting your arse trying to transfer the low wines or getting to the finished product :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I use them for storing low wines & aging, I siphon the product out with a racking cane &
use a wine thief to check on the aging.
I didn't remove the o-rings from the spears.
