Just starting out and need some advise? then post it in here.

pot still liebig condenser

Just a quick one.

does it matter which way you run the water in the condenser? From close to the boiler down the condenser, or from the end of the condenser back towards the boiler?

run it so that the cold runs in the closest to the output and the hot runs out closest to the boiler. That way it cools the liquor down more the furthest it goes down the condenser.

Have it the other way around and your cooling it down to heat it back up again :laughing-rolling:

another reason to do that is to get the vapour to more gradually condense rather than a sudden total collapse of all the vapour entering as this will cause constant pressure changes, vacuums and expansions resulting in excessive huffing
