50l keg heating

What is a good heating setup for a 50l keg if you intend to use a Pot still, one 2400 element or two, should it have a regulator on the elements to control the amount of heat.

Hey Raoul,

1 element is good but 2 is better and will save you a fair amount of time in this hobby.

A controller is very beneficial when making a flavoured product to have control of how hard you run it.

You would probably only need a controller on one of the elements, unless you have a specific use for another. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

i have a 2200 watt element- i only fill the 50L boiler with about 25L and the heatup time is about 45mins. 2 element will reduce ur heat up time, but since you will turn one off while your running it, it all comes down to how patient or impatient you are. I usually put in the wash and turn it on, by the time i put the still head on, get the hoses out etc, pour a drink etc, its on it way to heating up.

There is a temperature calculator- http://www.aussiedistiller.com.au/xcalcs.html

Hi Raoul ,I know you are going to use electric but

After reading Andys post It reminded me of a DON"T DO which I did as a newby

I thought I would speed up the boil- up time by sticking the gas burner under the boiler with the electric element running as well.

As I fucked around getting all the cooling lines fitted and shit ready, Shit happened a lot earlier than I expected .The still was ready before me and I had alcohol spewing out all over the flames .

Shit My self but survived.

HAVE THE STILL FULLY SET UP AND ALL COOLING WATER ATTACHED AND WORKING BEFORE SWITCHING ON
