Are copper coins copper? I was about to cut a disk to block off one end of of a 1"x1"x1/2" T, for my parrot, when a 1963 Australian half penny appeared on the kitchen bench- bingo! The problem is i'm not sure if they are pure copper, or do they have some nasties hidden in there?

They are more copper than copper.

I use one cent peices on the bottom of my parrot's.

If the diameter works, use it.

Australian coins are known for their purity. Careful with pennys and heypennys, some of them are worth a quid. And 1968 one and two cent bits. Dont join them to a still.

Also USA and Canadian pre 1982 one cent coins are considered safe too...

Thanks heaps guys ! I was keen to use it for karma purposes- a bit like placing a coin under the foundation of a building for good luck. The last time i did this though, i was working with some Itialian concreters and when i threw in a dollar coin one of the concreters jumped in, snapped up the coin an said "you aussies are a weird fucking mob" . I'm still waiting for the walls to crack !
