First wash

Postby NT CICHLIDS » Mon Apr 15, 2013 7:14 pm

Hi, I put my first wash down on Sat and it started bubbling away like crazy but come this morning no more bubbles so I'm guessing my first wash gets tipped down the drain but why? What did I do wrong?

At a rough guess Id say your fermenter lid or air lock seal is leaking, take the lid off and look and listen to see if its still fizzing, or you can dump your hydrometer in and take a reading, take another in a couple of days and see if its changed.

A hydrometer reading is always a good thing to do. It will tell you how much sugar is left and when it is finished. People use their fermenters with glad wrap instead of a lid and airlock, so don't always go by the Bubbling. Coopers New home brew kit doesn't even use airlocks instead they recommend relying on hydrometer readings.
