Attaching ferrules to pipe

What's everybody doing in terms of joining SS ferrules to copper pipe

Do you flare the pipe to fit it over the ferrule before soldering ?

Braze it ?

Weld it ?

Yea read that, was concerned that because the ferrules butt up flush with the pipe that soldering wouldn't give enough strength, I assume soldering would be fine if the pipe is flared out to fit over the ferrule.

I sliver solder the S/S ferrule as a butt braze...if I could flare the pipe I would just solder them on, however I have butt soldered tube together and its plenty strong.

Use a pipe joiner...gives extra mechanical strength :handgestures-thumbupleft:

thats true Brendan, maybe I should elaborate some, I have butt soldered 4" pipe together that stands upright. smaller tubes use a joiner...horses for courses... and I have wraped an outer sleeve around the larger tube 2" then soldered that for extra support.

Nah you're right JayD...I was kind of thinking vsboost was referring to soft soldering

edit: I see they're all asked in the original post. Well vsboost, I use a pipe joiner and soft solder on a 4" pipe :-D
