I don't rate taps personally, you end up with all the shit you don't want that's settled at the bottom...

Get yourself a 19mm fuel siphon hose from Repco (about $20)...or not :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I just use a 2l jug and scoop the wash out into my 30l fermenter. Sit that on top of me keg and open the tap. Filled keg in about 10 minutes. If you feel comfortable only lifting 10/15/20 kegs. Fill upto that much.

Simple :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I syphon the wash out with a length of food grade plastic tubing, once the level in the fermenter is too low for the syphon to work I scoop the last of the wash out with a jug.
I considered a tap but thought of a leak put me off the idea.

200L fermenters

Each to their own but I think syphoning 200 litres of wash can be a pain in the arse so I installed 3/4" PVC ball valves in the base of my rum fermenters. I put them 100mm from the bottom to allow a bit for sediment, usually pour the first litre or two back in as there is usually a bit of sediment at the valve suction. I put the valve about 200mm from the base on my UJ fermenter.

Parts are easily obtained from Bunnings etc.

I use the same tank fittings but a different valve, I mount the valves a bit higher so I can drain off the top of the lees, grain bed etc by leaning the drum over.

200L fermenters

Postby Rumdrinker » Tue May 21, 2013 9:13 pm

Glad to help mate.
I only did one 200 litre ferment before deciding to install valves. I also knocked up a stand for the fermenters - steel frame with a ply base a bit over 400mm high so I can easily fit the 20 litre buckets under the outlets. Next step is to mount a small inline pump to eliminate the need to "bucket" the wash.......

Got no mig gas left so thought ok will stick it but then lernt had no rods left so then I thought I will just cut the steel up get it ready and weld it later when i could be stuffed picking up welding gear. But hey i am also out of cutting disks. So down to the shop $800 later and the shelfs are fall again.
