Bubble Ball: What is it?

Postby karrotbear » Wed May 29, 2013 1:59 pm

Okay, so lately I have been reading up (or trying to) on Bubble Balls, and from pictures/vids on the net they essentially look like one bubble plate, with a few bubble caps and one central down comer.

Now the main reason I have been reading, for using a bubble ball is to create as much seperation as possible with a pot still.

Now my question is, how does the plate get loaded? Do you need a single vertical condenser above it to reflux and load the plate? If so is a bubble ball + pot still essentially just a 1 Plate column still? Or is it some other funky dunky stuff happening that controls this?

(I looked at the Scotch Bonnet and it seems to not have any condenser whatsoever, but there should be right?)

So if I wanted to include a bubble ball, I would have to have 2 condensers on my pot?
