Postby Aussiedownunder01 » Thu May 30, 2013 1:21 pm

So now i have my 80 liter boiler sorted out time to make a real still[the little 1 1/2 in one looks stupid on the new boiler ]
So far all i have made is neutral tpw [ and flavoured it with that hbs shit ]
mind you i took a bottle of honey burbon to sons place the other day [ his mate only drinks real burbon but he admitted looks like you nailed this one ]
i would like to have a go at rum, uncle jesseys, still do tpw so ineed a all rounder
i have oxy acet can get 4 in copper
So 4 or 5 plates bubble cap or perferated what
Is there such a beast out there that will do every thing
I would be gratefull for ideas

I run a 4 plate for a good rum and UJ... havent been motivated to use my 2 other plates and a rock basket , pretty sure bt1 and brendan has actually used their whole configuration with successful results

Hi mate, as a suggestion, you could build a 4 plate section for your flavoured spirits and build a second 4 or 3 plated section or packed section to clamp on top for vodka. :handgestures-th :-B umbupleft:

I have a rock section for mine. Only run 1 TPW through it so far but very impressed.
Cos ya can still do the cuts the same easy way but the lava rock scrubs it right up as well. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Yeah mate, I built completely modular with 6 plates and a 500mm packed section. You can also do like Kimbo said and make a 4 plate bit, and then add on a few plates and packed section.

I love the fully modular setup, as it's just a matter of undoing a few tri-clamps...can run 3 or 4 plates for a rum/whiskey/brandy, can just use the empty packed section as a pot column (or use the plated part without reflux condenser running), and with all plates and the packed section it makes a better neutral (95%+ABV) @ 2L/hr than my 3" VM did in slow drips :handgestures-thumbupleft:

This would be my choice if I was to do it again.
When I get the chance to build again, Ill be going down that path.
