First ever spirit run!

Postby turbo_eater » Sun Jun 02, 2013 8:08 am

Hey guys just thought I would post up my progress and say thankyou to everyone here for all the information and advice!

Woke up this morning nice and early and had the still running at 6.30, nice and hot by 7.30 and im watching my foreshots collect as we speak, and they really do smell alot like nail polish remover! After giving my first ever TPW wash lots of love and care over the last 8 days im really excited to see that its actually working :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Its a cold rainy day down here but my reflux condenser is sitting steady at 77 degrees, plenty of water flow Have all my jars set out and numbered ready to collect this liquid gold and see how I go at differing the heads, hearts and tails :D Thanks guys.

Best piece of advice on cuts is be BRUTAL! I know you have probably read it 100 times, like I did, but I could not help my self on my first run and my first rum came out pretty average. Has strong tails taste so now I have to wait longer for it to age.

Not too bad man, I ended up with 2 litres of 85% but I threw out plenty of foreshots and heads, was a good learning curve for me tho and thats what its all about! I have another wash fermentimg with an extra Kg of sugar and im going to let this one sit for 2 weeks instead of 1 as I think thats where I muffed up with my first batch:)

Nuthin better than that first sip of your own gear. Second best? Sharing it with friends.

Second best? Drinking the rest yourself :laughing-rolling:

Distant last, giving your hard earned gear away :crying-blue:
