Controlling a Boka still.

Postby newbiboozer » Sun Jun 02, 2013 5:23 pm

Hi I am a newbie and am in the process of building a Boka still based on the info on here. It will be 130cm tall colunm with slanted plates and copper packed . I am wondering if I need any control over the flow of cooling water to the condensor coil and the temp of the heating element in the boiler or do I run both flat out or is it all in the liquid flow control.Sorry if this has already been asked but I have done a search to no avail.

Hi Mate, nah, you don't need to control either (as long as the boiler isn't too fast, and the coolant isn't too slow). The important thing with a boka is fine control over the product take-off rate.

How big is your heating element - if its too big then you can flood the column... The condenser can be run flat out if you want, you just need to be able to knock down all the vapour. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Theres plenty of build threads around for the boka so you cant go wrong...

Thanks guys. My element is 2400 watt and am planning on a 6 inch double coil condenser. Does this sound OK.

2" column? Hopefully someone with this setup can comment on running at 2400W without flooding, I run a boka with 3600W so a controller is essential... :handgestures-thumbupleft:

2400W will be ok mate, a bit slow but fine.
I used one of those on my 2.5" and it worked quite well ;-)
