Strength of your Neutral

Postby karrotbear » Sun Jun 02, 2013 6:23 pm

Hello all,

I have recently started drinking my own neutral - distilled through a VM coming out at 95% blah blah -
One thing I (and my neighbour) have noticed is that I need to drink allot more of the hearts to get drunk when compared to normal store bought spirits. Is this todo with the 'blending' of store bought spirits (which we all know is just to maximise profit by putting in everything that wont potentially kill you).

I have been very stringent with my cuts for this neutral run. I gave my neighbour a 700ml bottle of 40% and apparently he drank that all and didnt feel anything (alco), I gave the same bottle to uni friends and apparently it got them smashed (but they were drinking other things too) and last night I had about half a bottle of my own 45% before I really started feeling it. Anyone else with similar experiences?

I dont know if id say immune, but you can definitely increase your alcohol tolerence with regular drinking. The more you drink, and the more often you drink, the lesser the effects produced, which means you need to drink more to feel the same... works the same with drugs as well.

Have you got a temp gauge and alcometer to make sure youre getting the right reading? (May sound stupid to ask, but can never rule anything out)

When you water down your booze it will heat up giving you a higher reading.

If you are taking the temp after watering should be good.

Also test your alcometer in water and make sure it reads zero :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Strength of your Neutral

I have a theory about alcohol tolerance.

While I was traveling around the UK I was in very good drinking form. One night I was out getting stuck into the booze and could not get drunk. After trying my best, went home at about 3am, sat on the side of the bed as proceeded to fall on my face. Turns out I was plenty pissed, could hardly walk. But it did not feel like it.

My theory is you don't become immune to alcohol, you just become used to the feeling of being drunk.

Both. Stuff like heroin, opiates, benzodiazepams, etc come to mind. Peoples bodies build up a tolerance to them, and they find they need more to get the same feeling.

The only thing i could think of doing is setting out a specific amount of standard drinks for red wine and your bourbon and on separate occasions try them out and see what happens.

There is not much difference between them, just that one is legal and the other isn't. A lot of them are made of the same stuff, just different levels of particular chemicals. I am pretty heavy on pain killers at the moment, (currently recovering from a second round of back surgery) and I was very surprised how similar some of the stuff I am on feels to party drugs I used back in my partying days.

That's the beauty of a theory. It can be wrong. And I tend to agree with you too. A few rums will do nothing for me but champagne and to a lesser extent wine will get me pissed quick.

Here's a couple quotes that may be interesting.

q1 wrote: Alcohol (Liquor) will cause you to become intoxicated more quickly than beer or wine. Beer and wine contain small amounts of non-alcoholic substances that slow down the absorption rate for the bloodstream. Naturally, if one night you have a ton or wine and/or beer and the next you have just a little liquor you would think different. But shot for shot (1 1/4 oz of 80 proof liquor, 12oz beer, and 4oz of wine) liquor will make you intoxicated more quickly.

q2 wrote: I have to agree that the highest alcohol level is whiskey.

However, in my opinion, wine may have a faster buzz effect on some people because of 2 things:

First, It has a lot of sugar.

Second, with the alcohol combination with the sugar and many other variables, our blood gets very thin, thus helping to circulate the alcohol faster around the human body.

Beer and Whiskey have the same effect but in a longer period of time. Vodka, for example, takes a long time to completely dilute into your system. Which means that you will be much drunker 3 hours after your last shoot, than 1 hour later (you do have to take in consideration the person’s weight, quantities, etc to find the right answer. This is just to give you a general idea).

As a result, one can assume that wine gets you drunker faster.

Cheers

hehehe, maybe its because your judgement was impaired from good clean spirits, none of the dirty cuts to remind you that you are in fact "impaired" (my liver is nervous about me making a still now)
