merky wash

Postby jjhuey » Mon Jul 01, 2013 4:04 pm

Hi all, I have been having a problem as of late, and it is when I am about 4 litres into a cook ( as I call it ) it starts to come out all merky looking, I realised that the marble was gone out of the top of my condenser and I replaced it with one of my kids ones, but it still comes out dirty. Any suggestions ?

Sounds like the wash is foaming over, try:
- Leaving about 20% head space in the boiler
- Adding a tablespoon or so of vegetable oil
- Putting a marble or piece of copper into the boiler (assuming you have a concealed element)
- Leave your wash to clear for about a week after it's finished bubbling.

Should be a bit better trying that stuff.

I'm just guessing by the equipment type the OP has a 25L boiler, in which case the cloudy distillate would almost certainly be tails after collecting 4 litres ;-)

it's a 25 litre boiler, and after the first 4 litres comes out it starts to get murky, since this post I have given a good scrub and steralized it, stop being murky but only coming out at about 62 % :angry-banghead:

25L spirit run? 25L strip run? How far do you fill up your boiler?

if its a 25L strip run i'd think 4L is about all your gonna get out, cloudy probably means tails is really coming through
