One ugly condenser

Postby C2H6O » Tue Jul 09, 2013 6:55 pm

Hello again guys,
So i thought i would try my hand at rolling a reflux condenser for my still mod.. So i got started on the inner coil and all was going well, managed to do the turn around to the outer coil and i was off again.... However.. I didn't have a mandrel so was going freehand, long story short i kinked it :crying-blue:
So i have been having a play trying to save my stuff up... What i have ended up with is one ugly coil where water enters the top through the 1/2" and then splits and hopefully runs up the inner and outer 1/4" coils...
I haven't soldered yet, what do you think.. Be brutal :D

Well there is no denying it, it ugly but do you think this will knock down vapor in a 2" column? It's 160mm long.. Or is a remake suggested?

Cheers..

I'd give it ago.It loks perhaps just alittle lite on in the number if turns but then with less restiction, you can probably force more water through it.
Hook it up to your water supply, tap or pump.If you can get more than 1 liter pet minuate through it or more you should be laughing.

Coppers too dear to waste.

yeah more than 1l you'll be fine my old boka had a slight kink at the change in directions and it still knocked everything back so i'd still give it a go a cold finger should mean less flow restriction than a dual helix :handgestures-thumbupleft: . Good old trusty bokas sitting in the cupboard since I built my bubbler

Ha ha cheers guys. Just a quick question, this is smaller than the inside diameter of the 2" column, but it is going to be extremely difficult to position this so it does not touch the sides. This is (hopefully) going to be a VM/LM hybrid so will have slant plates under the condenser. Is it an issue if i cant position the condenser so it does not touch the sides?

Cheers

Nah mate I wouldn't worry about it touching the sides, as long as it knocks the vapor down your laughing
