How to fit FSD pot still on t500 boiler?

Postby _TK_ » Wed Jul 31, 2013 11:38 am

Hi All,

As in subject, I'm looking for the way to fit FSD pot still on to t500 boiler without welding ferulle to boiler cover. I know u will say buy the keg - I did, I'm waiting for it to be delivered 4weeks and it looks like I'll wait another 2.

I already have t500 boiler sitting around, and wash is pailing up everywhere , so I though maybe I could run it before I put my hands on proper keg .

Any ideas?

I have no idea, but I doubt the lid of a T500 would support the weight of a decent pot still. If the weight of the still head caused the lid to flex it probably wouldn't seal properly, the lid is only pressed down to the gasket at 4 points.

I dont know too much about the T500 boiler, but my Pure Distilling boiler, which looks the same, carries my 2" VM easily enough. And that thing is WAY bigger then any pot still I have seen around this forum. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

OK, maybe it'll work, I wouldn't like to bolt anything on mine that has the weight offset to one side by much, they're fairly flimsy and flex easily.

Yeah, like that. The difference between that and the T500 though by the looks is that one has a clamp that runs around the entire rim, so a little bit of flexing wouldn't be a problem, the T500 only has 4 little hooks that go over the lid. It might well work, just be aware of what you're doing.

Stainless lid very little flex in this one, yes it has a clamp like the large paint tins used to have.

tkwaski

Here's one I did similar to Stevem

Stillin Pics 038.jpg

It was my very first attemp at bashing a flange out of 2" copper .But did take a lot of annealing with a MAPP torch to get it done .This got a cork gasket and SS nut/bolts .

Very stable with a VM colum on it .Despite what people say about these stainless boilers ,the tops are very strong

Was thinking all the brass in contact with vapour is coated in solder to shield it from the potential nasty lead in the brass
