Leaking Reflux Column - Can i reboil my wash again tomorrow?

Postby toby » Wed Aug 14, 2013 12:04 pm

Hi everyone.

Just a quick question.

I bought a keggomax cm reflux still some time ago and since day one it has leaked fromt he thread. http://www.kegking.com.au/Downloads/Keg ... ochure.pdf

It produces some great neautrals esp after adding all copper mesh up the column replacing the SS scrubbers. To get me through i had to use some plumbers tape around the thread and it sealed ok for the past 5 distills. However today i got her up to running temp and just as foreshots came it started leaking at the base and despite trying to fix it it still leaks as i have no vice to undo the bloody tight thread. :angry-banghead:

I will have to wait until tomorrow to get it repaired due to public holiday in qld today. My question to you experienced shiners is this - When i get the thread fixed in the next few days, am i able to re-boil the wash again and start the distill process over? Are the low wines ok to reboil and start the distilling process again once cooled for a few days or are the low wines buggered and i need to start a new tpw wash from scratch?

I am hoping it will be ok as i don't want to have wasted a 60 litre ferment of tpw and start again.

If anyone knows the answer i would be greatful.

Cheers

If you do, take a decent fores and heads cut and it should be fine.

As said above, no worries starting again. Just chuck you foreshots as usual and away you go.

I've stopped a few times mid run ( being on call is a prick sometimes ) It's just a case of firing it up and starting like its a new run. I'm not even sure if you need to take new foreshots , but I do just in case.
It sounds like you weren't far into it so you should be ok.
Ps if your not sure just do the whole run as a strip. Or you could throw the lot back in and start again.

Thanks again everyone!
I ended up racking her off into my other keg, got the reflux column tig welded and no more leaks again! Recharged her with the old low wines took fores and away she went and got about 4.5 litres of 90% + TPW clean smelling neutral!
