hi i am new here and was wondering how you double distill ?
would i do the following?

put 4L of spirit @ 38% already watered down from the first run and then run my stiill a second time ?
and collect what comes out would this be safe or am i in danger of blowing myself and the still up ?

How big is ur still
Most will strip run collect anuff low wines 40% below to charge there still then do a spirit run
To drive the % up

Eg: I run 40 litre wash and collect 7ish litres low wines 60%-20% x4 so i have anuff alcohol to charge my still at 40 litres
And 40% and do the spirit run nice and slow

That's pretty much it in a nutshell Tim.
And you can just make your Cuts on the second run :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Hi mate, yes what you're talking about is a strip run. Although I'd do a few more and get a bit more than 4L in the boiler - that's a pretty small run.

Are you on gas or electric? How big is your boiler? You can go to 40% too.

I'd be doing about 5 of those 4L strip runs and then charge your boiler with that 40% strip run - what's known as low wines. Just wait until you have a little more and then you do a nice slow spirit run.

38% is considered safe by most in the distilling community. With a charge like that you should be able to make a few cuts even with an air still. Just use small jars.

Mate Ive never run an air still and don't want to. From what I understand about distilling , with a still that size , you are best to always strip first, get your product up around 40% if you can.....keep stripping wash till you have a full charge. In your case 4 liters.....then run again taking cuts in very small jars / amounts. At worst you will learn a lot about pot stilling, at best you will get something worth drinking.

ok guys i am back and my 2nd run is complete i collected 1L and measured it in 200ml units they averaged 77% so it would be safe to say that when i start with a spirit of 38% and distill it a 2nd time i can end up with 1L @ 70% at least acording to my alcometre and although it has a kick to it it does in my opinion not taste anywhere near as bad as the 38% that i have been producing up till now any input greatly appreciated

Hopefully when you finish off that turbo and give a TPW a go it should be a bit nicer. If it istill has too much burn, run it a third time. Also, maybe try collecting in 100ml jars. That will give you a better chance to make decent cuts.
