kiwikegs electric boiler build

Postby kiwikeg » Sat Aug 24, 2013 1:41 pm

I am building a new boiler, it will have 2 stainless, weldless elements about 2200- 2400w each yet to be purchased

I have 2 types of keg available one a typical 50l and one like this

I am wanting to use the rubberised keg as I want to run it inside the house and the rubber coating will protect the floor from scratches.
I am worried that the rubber bits may melt or pull off when moving keg while hot?
Has anyone made a boiler from one of these Hoover kegs?

I don't see any problem with the rubber coating its only getting to boiling and they sanitise them with steam

With weldless elements I reckon they would make a top boiler, and they're already partially insulated :happy-partydance:

Only downside I can see is if you were going to weld fittings on them you'd have to make sure the rubber didn't get too hot, but then that cleanskin one in the other post would look nice flipped upside down with legs/wheels on it without the rim that's usually on a normal keg.

I am a fan of the upside down keg for a boiler :handgestures-thumbupleft:
