Watering Down

Hi All,

I have 9 litres of 45% low wines, according to the calc i only need like 1.5 litre of water to get this down to 40% for a spirit run.

Am i better to water it down to 25% to increase the quantity in the boiler?

Hej

Depends on your boiler type and volume I would make sure that heating element is submerge at all times - ending liquid level will be lower than starting.. Use common sense and u will be fine

.. and if you looking to get cleaner product by watering in down to 25% instead of 40% - I found on this forum that it would not help, it will just make your electricity bill higher..

As above, you want to make sure your elements are covered the whole run. I see you have a keg with elements. (It would help if you updated the equipment in your profile) Work out how much water is required to keep your element covered. As an example, lets say its 10L
If you charge your boiler with 10.5L at 40%, means there is 4.2L of 100%. Lets say your run averages out at 60%ABV, that means you will have removed 7L from your boiler. Now I know you don't recover all the alcohol from your charge but lets err on the safe side and say you do. That only leaves 3.5L in your boiler. So you really want an extra 7L of water in there.

That is how I work it out anyway. Other people may have better ideas.

just don't use bloody chlorinated tap water straight from the tap...do it the night before and aerate the shit out of it.

I need about 6 litres to keep my element covered, so am i correct in saying 10.5 litres of 40% then add the extra six giving a total of 16.5litres in the boiler which will bring the ABV down to about 28%.

The way I see it if you cover your elements before you put any wash in you can't go wrong.
Having said that I'm on gas so I only really need to get down to 30 to 40%
Not worth saving $$ on power if you have to spend it on insurance excess.

What still are you running this through? Your list says you dont have one.

Some stills it's better to be closer to that 40% mark for performance :handgestures-thumbupleft:

But yeah always make sure your elements covered and you stay under 40% or you may have some probs ;-)
