Suitable Fermenters/Clearing Containers

Postby Zak Griffin » Sun Sep 01, 2013 6:11 pm

Morning all! I'm currently in the market for a second ~50L container, so I can rack my wash off into it, freeing up my fermenter for another batch. I was at the local Cheap as Shit before, and they've got 60L wheelie bins there, labeled as 'kids toy bins' or something, for under $15 a pop.

I had a quick google, and according to the plastic rating thing they are a 2, or HDPE, which from all reports is safe for use with ethanol.

Are they really? Obviously I'm storing ~10% ABV wash in them, not low wines or anything. I didn't buy any because I wanted to make sure, but if they are suitable they'd be pretty handy!

is there any markings on the underside of the bin about what plastic it is made from? (unless the google search turned up the manufacture details and you are sure is HDPE)

HDPE is what you want
