Feed grade molasses and Little flies

Postby poompy » Mon Sep 23, 2013 8:14 am

Hey,

Finally got around to doing some more Rum. This time though I got my molasses from the pet store, opened her up smells great!!, filled up the fermenter and then noticed these little flies floating on the top, scooped em out with a seive. With the next fermenter I watered down the molasses and poured it through a sieve and caught them all.
I did chuck in the yeast and they are both happily fermenting away.

So question is, will it be alright?

My thoughts were Yes as there will be that much alcohol and then I will be boiling it.

Cheers guys.

Yep, it will be fine. If your worried about infections in your wash you could clarify your molasses before you use it.

i think once the yeast takes control and the alcohol goes up it will take care of anything.

Cheers guys
