I'm a little confused

Postby paleale » Sun Oct 06, 2013 6:38 pm

Hello everyone, today i changed to packing in my reflux still from stainless steel to lead free brass (essencia packing). I did my first TPW run through the essencia scrubbers and the highest ABV i got in the middle of the run was 89%. I know this isn't too bad but i was getting up 96% with the stainless steel, the only differnece i can think of is that i did have the stainless steel scrubbers packed mirginly tighter then the new one's. Would this be the cause to the 7% ABV difference?

Also on another note. What containers do you guys keep your feints in? I'm just using a Demijohn at the moment till it gets full. Just wondering what other people use.

Cheers

Yes mate if you didn't pack it tight enough it won't work as well, you want to jam it in pretty tight but still be able to breathe through it easily.

Dunno why you would've changed to the essencia stuff, SS scrubbies are just as good and a lot cheaper :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Righteo. Anyway next question due you lads have have a dedicated fermenter for rums. Just made a rum wash and it sticky as all hell. Should a keep this as just a rum fermentor (an excuse to buy another one  ) or will it wash out well with no trace elements for a neutral wash.
