Copper tube for aeration

Postby res » Mon Nov 04, 2013 8:57 pm

So I bought some 1/4' tube for my aeration endeavors but before I sink it into my precious booze I was wondering if it needed be cleaned in some way, the pipe is brand new but does have various specs printed all along it.
I had a scrub with some weak heads with little success, any thoughts?

I just boiled mine in a solution of citric acid in water for a few minutes and then rinsed with some distilled water (store bought) as I didn't want to rinse it with tap water (I do all my diluting of spirit with distilled water) and add a bit of off flavour to my product...probably being over cautious but it didn't hurt.

equipment: Eve - 4" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (sieve plates), 330 mm packed section on a keg boiler with 2 x 2000 W elements.
Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.

Cheers mate, did your tube have print on it? did it come off with this approach?

We use those green scotchbrite pads...sometimes wet n dry sanding paper...works well for removing the gunk and print off tubes.
