Why didn't I read here first?

Postby Marbled » Thu Apr 17, 2014 4:57 pm

Ok, so I admit it, not knowing what I was doing I've put some unflavoured "40" to store in a plastic bottle.
It now has a flavour.... Not what I was after,it sure isn't Irish Whiskey.
Ditch it or put it through the still again?

Thanks men, that's all the info I needed..... And of course, I knew what was coming, just wanted to make sure from some experience.

I'll ditch it now.

If in doubt, throw it out... It only costs a couple of $/L to make!

I'm still considering how to get around the sealing problem, can't use the rubber that came with, it's falling apart.

I'll sort something.

Champagne cork seems Like a great idea.

I got some glass jars from the local discounter store. They had rubber seals which stunk like, yep rubber. I got a "Massive Fondant/Pastry Silicone Rolling Work Mat Mould Sugarcraft Cake Tools" aka silicone bakers mat from ebay for under $5 posted. It's 28cm by 38cm and makes lots of seals. I just used one of the old seals as a template and it works a treat. Otherwise corks are easy.

Nah bro just sit them ontop and they swell from the vapor and seal in a day or so.
I use the Lindauer corks.

Thanks guys.

Oh and many thanks one and all, I've had a go at cuts. Absolutely brilliant, what a revelation! I'm Gobsmacked at the difference.
So far I've put everything to one side apart from the hearts based on mine and the wife's noses.

There's more to this than first meets the eye, and I'm loving it.

Cheers!

Now if you've got other mates that make their own, and think cuts are a waste of time... Donate all of your heads to them and see what they think.
