Venting / Collecting CO2 from Fermentation?

Hi,

I'm currently preparing a small out-building next door for my fermentation / distilling activities. Up to now, I've been doing no more than 2 x 25L ferments of rum or neutral wash at once within the house. This is because the UK is cold and I can easily maintain temp inside. My out-building has very high ceilings for the most-part and I will have plenty of power and space, so good for distillation - but it faces north and I'm having to think how I will get 200L fermentations going out there - especially multiple ones at a time.

This open plan space happens to enclose a small room; 2.5m x 1.5m (2.1m ceiling height). I'm thinking of using this as a fermentation room as it will be easier and cheaper to heat this one room to perhaps 22deg all the time. I'm concerned with what I've read about CO2 concentrations around the floor, so wonder what other distillers do? I could put extractor fans at floor level but won't that just suck the heat out as well? I'm wondering if anyone extracts CO2 directly from the airlocks?

Thanks in advance,

JT

Apologies. My initial search on this forum didn't spot this thread on the same topic

2 x 25L is such a small volume, the CO2 is negligible. Less than a human expires.

I wouldn't bother.

You run the risk of introducing back pressure onto the fermenter and it exploding.

Few, very few commercial distilleries capture their CO2. It's only seen amongst large scale breweries.

:text-+1: unless putting in couple ibc's ..most distilleries use open top fermenters..

And on the 31st month the thread rose from the grave.

What is CO2 value and would think that if could collect would have advantage and if had commercial operation collection will probably become mandatory.

Saw one guy who fed it into his fish tank, its really needed if you have a heavily planted out tank, best hobby level use I've seen so far

Pipe it into your weed cupboard. The plants will love it

I can barely keep my weeds under control in the garden. He’ll mate I feel so sorry for you that they are now growing on your cupboard. That must be a nightmare :laughing-rolling:

Wellsy, tell me about it. I have to keep 'harvesting' to them under control :))
