Exploding concrete

Postby Sam. » Fri Sep 16, 2011 8:16 pm

The other day i bent up a windbreak for my italian spiral burner to heat quicker and after about 20 minutes a load crack and a chunk of concrete about 5 cm in diamter and a couple of mil thick broke off and flew out and hit the fence at high speed :o

Me and my mate nearly shat ourselves :laughing-rolling:

Anyone else had this happen before?

Before anyone asks don't know what grade of concrete, it is in a driveway but looks faily old.

i have heard it can happen and always either jack up on some blocks or use a bit of SS sheet as a heat deflector underneath just off the ground.

theory is it is moisture / air gaps in the concrete heat em up they expand and under pressure BANG / BOOM
