HELP is this barrel good for spirits?

Postby Boardy62 » Fri Oct 28, 2016 1:12 pm

Hi all I need some help I am pretty sure this us just a wine barrel tarted up,I am looking at it this arvo they have the cork for it my questions are;

How is the best way to work out what it has stored given that information is unknown to the owners?

If it has stored wine is it a prospect for storage or not?

Any advise would be appreciated

By the looks of it, it looks more of a display item than a usible barrel :-B

Look for loose bands, if they are really loose it has shrunk a fair bit and the bands may be hard to get sitting in the right place to seal it up.

Have a smell inside, if it smells mank it probably had some water for a long period of time, which would be a big downside. If it smells like wine or a spirit of some sort it should be good.
