Oaking with extract/essence

Postby Arismac » Sun Jun 18, 2017 8:38 pm

I read somewhere that adding a quantity of Oak chips to a small amount of 90% ABV and leaving it to stand for a week or two with daily shakes will produce an essence which can be added to bourbon, rum and whiskey to produce an "aged in the wood" aroma and taste. Has anyone tried this and if so could you comment, please. I especially would like to know, presuming this is possible, the amount of ingredients used and how much is added to the final product.

Thanks

If you want a quick fix you can make a mix of 40% TPW, hbs still spirits bourbon cordial and a handful of staves. Let it sit for a month or so (swishing it up whenever you pass by). I made my bourbon this way for years (except I used that expensive hbs turbo crap) until I stumbled upon this site. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
