Barrel char and fix, not so hard

Posted about a barrel I had bought that leaked bad and had not been charred, got some great advice and encouragement from some members here about how to go about charring and fixing said barrel. Especially from Sam.
Took the hoops off from one side and took the end board right out of it (after marking alignment of course) gave it a light charring on the inside and put it back together.
I got the hoops back on no worries using an old chisel with a notch cut out of the tip and a hammer and some little skirting nails to stop the hoops from rocking back and forth as I tapped them on. Managed to get them a fair bit tighter than they were before.

I now have it filled with water swelling the wood to eliminate the few tiny leaks that Are still present. Can't wait to fill it with some tasty rummmmm!!!!

Thank u Sam and others for advice and encouragement, without which I probably wouldn't have attempted this seemingly difficult task. Now I've done it once I won't hesitate in the future :D

After I posted I realised I hadn't taken any pics. :angry-banghead:
I thought someone might ask for some, as they say without pics it never happened
Might have to pull it apart again just for the pics

I took apart a 5L barrel a month or two ago. I found it fiddly getting the end wall back on. I was hoping to char the insides with a blow torch, but there wasn't enough oxygen with only one end off, so it just flamed out.

I've seen it recommended somewhere that you can just toast the entire barrel for an hour or two in the oven, then tighten up the bands...might be the next experiment.

I used my mapp gas torch, it was choking a bit but got the job done
