Hey fellas,

I have the possibility of getting a used red wine barrel, French oak from a winery, I know a guy.

If it’s a decent price, I’m assuming just breaking it down, cutting it up and toasting as needed for the staves is the regular deal? Anyone done this before?

Yep , now got a filing cabinet draw full of dominoes ( a couple of lifetimes worth) .

I used a band saw to make length ways cuts then a jigsaw mounted upside down in a vice to cut the strips into dominoes .

My tip , be patient , Oak may look like a soft wood but its as hard as concrete .

My wife bought me a used 200l barrel thinking I could fill it with whiskey :laughing-rolling: I had to explain how many years it would take me to fill it so now it’s just sitting in my shed empty, I want to cut it up for staves but because it was an anniversary present I’m not allowed :crying-blue:
One day it’ll happen though...
