Put washer if theres one I use oring nuts without a washer, and nut on back and set it to where you want ie will dictate how much sticks through put the nut and washer on outside and hand tighten these weldless fittings dont need to be crazy tight to seal. I nip it 1/4 to 1/2 turn past finger tight. Hold backing nut and tighten outside one. If any distortion to silicone seal its too tight.. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Lol i was gunna link that exact one but remembered gotta be tightened from back. If you can get hold of a long ratchet socket or someone with small hands it would be fine. Not sure why that one is copper coloured. Usually they are silver, stainless colour.

On second thought a ratchet handle with a length of tight fitting pipe would work :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I must be missing something here Stig. You asked how do you get samples out along the way - Hilza answered that I reckon. Now you and Bluc have been talking about taps etc. which still require gas and filtering for a final drink. (unless of course you're going to drill a hole in the lid and tip the keg on its side?) Seems like a lot of effort to me for little reward?

I’m thinking drill a hole near the bottom and install the tap.
No gas needed just turn tap and collect

How big is the hole in the top of the corny keg?
Easily fit your hand in?
Why not just use a ring-open-ended spanner of the right size after tou do it up with fingers?
How many turns do you need to do, like 1/2 to 1 full turn?
Spanner will be fine.

Or if you have one a stubby ratchet spanner, I've got a set up to 1" and they are handy as for tight situations like engine bays.

It’s the depth, none of us have long enough or skinny enough arms to get all the way to the bottom.

About 700 but the Mrs can reach 550 so I’m thinking a tap there would be ok.

Duct tape a spanner to a bit of wood. You dont have to put crazy pressure on it :-B

We just use a wine thief Stig. Slow, but if we ever want to put beer in the kegs again we can. I sacrificed one to make the thumper, but don't want to molest any more.

I though about things like the jiggle siphon and wine thief but didnt want the plastic element. This is why I dropped the idea of using C02 and a beer tap/line
Thats why I was looking for a long term solution with a stainless tap and today the solution walked in the door.
The issue of getting the nut on the back was solved by a mate who is built like a stick insect dropped in and stuck his arm in and went flat palm on the bottom of the keg.
So ill order the tap from grain and grape and drill this weird tall keg so it can stand on a shelf and serve its life as an aging vessel (maybe more will follow)

But seriously, our wine thief is all copper. 1" with a couple of reducers down to 1/4" at one end, a cap with a 10mm hole in the other. Works a treat!
