Hi all,

I've done this with my little 30lt kegs I picked up, boily mate has done another great job! Made them modular to stack on top for storage of low wines and/or hearts. I've got some wheels to bolt on the bottom yet just for convenience. Also, I made the top 4" ferrule so if I want or need later I can modify a bit and use them as a boiler.

What's the best way for storing low wines for a spirit run, and does it make any difference? I could store 30ltrs at under 40% ready for spirit run, or 30ltrs of approx ABV90%.

Cheers,
Chocko

No real reason not to store at 90+ abv other than a safety factor in event of a fire, ss kegs are much safer than glass.....

If left open to the atmosphere, then you would loose more product over time at higher abv

+1 I reakon for 90+% a air lock would be good so they can't build pressure in a fire and explode

Yes that's what concerns me a bit too, maybe a pressure relief valve like this?

Used your advice and ended up getting these rather than stuff around installing my own, I needed the plain end caps I had for my Gin head project anyway so for the money it was a no-brainer.

That’s looking like a tidy set-up now!
Well done.
