I very much doubt you were Crow...its all good.
croweater wrote:just saying fucked if I'd pay $150 for 20 kg of raw off cuts of oak that price is a bloody joke

I wasn't really going too, and I would rather check all my options first anyway, that's why I emailed a few places in Perth to check my options locally before deciding.
croweater wrote:the Swan Valley has quite a number of wineries

Your right on there, I pass through there quite often driving between Perth and home, but honestly I hadn't thought about it that much. I have read a fair few comments around the net from people using old used wine barrels, that there is a fair bit of work involved and they said it wasn't really worth the effort. I cant say I wouldnt try it, but at the moment I am without a shed and have no tools, and staying with relatives while I'm in Perth.
croweater wrote:maybe even more convenient New Norcia monistry makes sherry , port and musket surely they must flog off there old barrels
That could possibly be another good place to try, I will Google them now, and not a bad little drive from Perth if I can pick-up some decent cheap barrels, I will be looking them up, thanks for your input. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

The only K`town I'm familiar with is Karratha, but anyway back on topic, I think its going to be a far better deal just going for a used barrel. Even if I have to pay $100 for a decent one, that's shit loads more Oak for the money rather than buying chips, chunks, or off-cuts.

I will ask Kimbo, he should know more about those places. Anyway, back on topic I think, sorry we hijacked your thread Crow.
As I mentioned, I think I will do away with trying to find off-cuts, and just focus on getting hold of a decent Oak barrel to chop up instead, it does make more sense.
