Behold my oak packed section. have 2 tpw almost ready, will run one with it and one without. This oak has been flogged a bit so hoping there won't be to much flavor come through, this was originally about using oak in the column for flavors but looking at different ways to the packed rock idea, and can't think of other chip that would be suitable. Only put 3ltr of rum on American oak chips medium toasted its been 24 hours and it already smells good how am I meant to wait a month lol

Not to sure TPW's are going to give a great result . are you hoping the wood chips will filter as well as impart flavor, if so I just don't think they will filter all that efficiently :handgestures-thumbupleft:

When the oaked packed part of the column heats to the temp and over the cause of the run won't there be some oils that will leach from the wood as the oak expands . :-|

You make a good point there in the fact that if the chips are bone dry when you pack them I would not pack them too tight just in case they expand and create a nice big plug for your still :scared-eek:

Yeah thought of that 12 many, I've boiled them , might do it few more.times, I wanted to try it with just any chip but wasn't sure what sort I could use that wouldn't leach bad stuff. That's true Sam, will have to do some trial error. Thanks for the.feed back.

I'm interested to see how you go googe, I wonder how the chips will react with vapor. I've got no opinion as I've never tried it, but always been curious. I'd probably use newish wood, just to gauge how much, if any flavor comes over, but thats me. You could be onto the next big thing. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
