Re-oaking

Postby Woodsy71 » Mon Sep 09, 2013 7:03 am

Gday all,

Ive taken a rum off oak after 5 weeks and after several taste tests have decided it could have gone an extra month on oak.
Ive already diluted it back to 40%.

Can i put it back on oak?

Cheers

Yeap sure can, I find that at lower abv's is where you get the most oak flavor carry over where at higher you get more vanillin and other tannins. All thou I make scotch style whiskey and I usually do 4-5 weeks at around 65% and then do about the same time even longer at 40%. Works really well for my taste buds, so see how you go.
