Oaking rum....

hiya folks...

my first rum is ready for oaking... how much do you use???

7g/l is a figure that pops up... is this close?

i toasted some ROTB sticks....

Redux it seems the norm to use between 7 and 15 grams per litre I go closer to 15 its a taste thing check it regularly you can pull a bit out once it colours up

:text-+1: on the 15g per liter for the first month.

Then remove a third for the next month.

Then remove a third and let her sit that way.

Always have a taste to suit through out its journey

My recent batches of rum have been a bit light in flavour, so I only use 5g/L of French oak chips, 4gm raw, 1gm medium toasted. This balances extremely well after 3-4 months. No need to remove any in increments. Just leave it all in there indefinitely.

I aimed low to begin with as I didn't want to overwhelm the rum flavour, and as it turns out it doesn't need any more.

equipment: Assorted equipment for handling various base ingredients. Mashing setup for beer/whiskey. Pot still. CM column with temperature controlled coolant to control take-off rate.

Yep the colour comes quick but the taste takes time :handgestures-thumbupleft:
